Oh Canada

Well the Canada's have definitely moved in we saw lots of migrators today as well as geese that have begun to settle in.  There are also lots of mallards in the area but, we were froze up the last 2 days so we do not have any water to offer them however, today we spent 2 hours breaking and moving ice and with the strong wind today hopefully our pocket of water will stay open.  We got a 1 man limit of geese today we should of filled a two man limit but, we blew 2 chances.  We also should of had a couple specks but, a strong wind gust hit the decoys as they were making their final swing and it caused them to flare.  Have a good weekend and good luck to all.

They're In!

Sorry for not reporting the last few days.  We had a great weekend with lots of ducks moving through the area and did not see many geese over the weekend.  Sunday and Monday both were birdie conditions however, not much activity however, today the geese were moving all morning.  We saw geese moving solid from 7 AM till 1 PM.  It appears the migration was in full swing between last night and today.  The strange thing about today is geese were migrating all day but, we did not see any ducks.  Lets hope the hunting continues to be good this week.

Got One

Well finally after 17 days of getting nothing we broke the shutout with one mallard.  As with all the other blogs and sites the migration has been non-existent we have seen no signs of a migration beginning.  By now we have had a few days of seeing snow geese move all day and we have seen only one bunch of snow geese all season.  All ducks so far seem leery and will not commit and pair that with the river conditions you have the makings of a bad season to date.  Last year at this time the lakes had started to freeze and the river was running slush and now we are basically hunting in our swimsuits.  Hopefully Thanksgiving week will bring us some ducks.

Frustration

Well it has now been 2 weeks since we have been able to put a duck in the boat.  The river continues to fluctuate not leaving us with any good decoy water.  Have not seen much this week however, today some new ducks pushed in but, nothing will decoy.  We have been having ducks work well but, nothing will commit or come within shooting range.  Also Canada goose numbers around our area have decreased over the last week. Hopefully this week will bring some more ducks down with, the weather getting colder. Good luck to all and I would like to say thanks to our troops and stay safe out there Sgt William Lynch, USMC.

No Action

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday saw little to no activity.  Seeing very few ducks and some local geese.  The Platte river has dropped about 10 inches this week so there are lots of sand bars and good water.  Hoping some new ducks pushed in today and tonight with the strong NW winds that blew today.
